Examples of parenting approaches that create a liberal worldview:
RESCUING
PARENTS: These parents rescue a child from living with
consequences of his actions. They pay for his broken windows, clean
up his messes, replace his lost toys, and pay his parking tickets.
The result: The child grows up believing he should not have
to live with the consequences of his choices. As an adult he
believes it is the government’s duty to provide clean needles for
drug abusers, condoms and abortions for the promiscuous, and a cure
for those who choose a risky sexual lifestyle.
INDULGENT
PARENTS: These parents confuse indulgence with love. They
fail to realize the sense of entitlement they cultivate in their
children by giving them everything they can afford: toys, computers,
cell phones, DVD’s, video games, etc. In these homes the parents are
intimidated by their children’s whining or complaining, so are
hesitant to make the children suffer through healthy food, daily
chores, and “waiting.”
The result: These children grow up
with an over-exalted sense of their own importance. They believe it
is the duty of the government and employers to take care of all
their wants and needs. In their way of thinking, for life to be
fair -- everything must be equal. For them, compassion
equals socialistic thinking -- the government must forcefully take
from the haves and share it with have-nots.
PERMISSIVE
PARENTS: These parents are soft and feel it unfair to
require children to obey quickly. They think it harsh to discipline
for each act of defiance, so repeat themselves and give multiple
warnings. And out of fear of warping their psyches, parents permit
their children to resist their leadership and talk back.
The
result: Children grow up without the ability to say NO to their
passions and do what’s right. They are so narcissistic that for them
-- expedience trumps integrity. They cheat in school,
get away with what they can at work, and contribute to the rise in
crime. Because they think it is their right to speak their mind,
they are mouthy and outspoken towards those in authority. Since they
grew up without serious consequences for misbehavior, they confuse
indulgence with love and tend to
be soft on crime.
